Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, is one of the oldest Law Departments in India, commencing its teaching and research in the discipline of law in 1889. Under the guidance of faculty members who are not only leading experts in their respective fields, but also make up many of the senior voices in the department’s areas of research, students are guided through a range of programs from the undergraduate to the doctoral level, all while the department’s extensive connections to the Bar, the Bench and government bodies ensure a dynamic exploration of the relationship between theory and practice. Set in the intellectual and cultural milieu of Panjab University’s campus in Chandigarh, the Department of Laws delivers a rigorous education as much as a platform for open debate, question, and public service. In keeping with its cherished tradition, the Department remains a nodal centre of legal research and teaching in the nation, grooming students to be socially sensitised about the content and context of legal norms, so that they emerge as champions of rights and custodians of duties.
