Highlights The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, is a five-and-a-half-year full-time medical degree that combines strong academic foundations with intensive clinical training. In the early years, students study core subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and behavioural sciences, which help them understand the structure and functioning of the human body. As the course progresses, students move into clinical disciplines, including internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, and community medicine. Teaching is closely integrated with hands-on learning through clinical postings in AIIMS’ own teaching hospital, one of the largest and most advanced healthcare facilities in the country. The programme concludes with a compulsory one-year rotating internship, allowing students to apply their learning in real clinical settings and develop practical competence before qualifying as medical graduates.
