CAT 2025 Exam Date, Eligibility, Syllabus & Cut-offs Guide

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted annually by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission into their postgraduate management programs. Beyond the IIMs, numerous other prestigious business schools across India accept CAT scores for their MBA and equivalent programs.​

CAT assesses candidates on three primary areas: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). The CAT exam evaluates the candidates' mathematical, analytical and language skills. CAT aspirants who achieved a good score in the test will be selected for the top IIMs or other BSchools in India.

To be eligible for CAT 2025, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree from a recognized university with at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates).

2. Final Year Students: Candidates appearing for the final year of their bachelor's degree or awaiting results are also eligible to apply.

3. Professional Degrees: Candidates holding professional degrees like CA, CS, or ICWA are eligible.

4. Age Limit: There is no age limit to register for the CAT 2025 exam. 

The entire syllabus of CAT is divided into different sections, which are evaluated and checked together as a whole to measure the reasoning and aptitude levels of the candidates. The syllabus is divided into three sections:​

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)

a.Reading Comprehension — Passages followed by questions to check understanding.

b.Verbal Ability- This section will have questions on grammar, sentence correction, para jumbles, and vocabulary. ​

2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)

a. Graphs, Charts, and Tables Analysis: Graph-based analysis

b. Logical Reasoning: Puzzles, arrangements, and logical sequences. ​

3. Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

a.Arithmetic: Percentage, ratio, time, and work, etc.

b.Algebra: Equations, inequality, functions.

c.Geometry and Mensuration: Shapes, areas, volumes.

d.Number Systems: Divisibility, Remainders, etc.

e.New Math: Permutations, combinations, probability. ​
