M.Sc Entrance Exams in India 2026: Registration, Syllabus & Dates

A Master of Science (M.Sc) is also a good option for graduates specialising in fundamental science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science. MSc admission to top-ranked institutions such as IITs, NITs, Delhi University, and other central and state universities is highly competitive and involves separate entrance tests. Some of the entrance exams widely accepted by top MSc colleges in India include IIT JAM, CUET PG, BITS HD, DUET, JNUEE, and BHU PET. 

Details of the major M.Sc exams conducted in India are listed below. 

1. IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for Masters) 

IIT JAM is the most prestigious entrance for M.Sc candidates. JAM is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology to provide admissions to M.Sc and integrated Ph. D. programs in IITs and IISc. It consists of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology and Geology. 

 Applicants with at least 55% aggregate in a bachelor’s degree (50% for reserved categories) can apply for JAM exam. The computer-based test of 3 hours duration will be held on seven subjects. The question paper is comprised of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. 

 CUET PG (Common University Entrance Test – PG) 

CUET PG is a national-level PG entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions into various postgraduate courses (including M.Sc) in more than 250+ central, state, and private universities of the country, such as Delhi University, BHU, JNU, etc. Implemented with the primary motive of simplifying the admission process to postgraduate programmes under a single system, CUET PG encompasses different fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Environmental Science. 
 
Candidates should have a suitable bachelor's degree in a relevant field from any recognized university. The test is a CBT examination that lasts 105 minutes.

1. DUET (Delhi University Entrance Test) 

DUET is a postgraduate entrance exam conducted by NTA for admission to master’s courses such as M.Sc in Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, and Operational Research at the University of Delhi. 
 
Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in the subject concerned or equivalent from the University of Jammu or from another recognized University with at least 55% marks are eligible to apply for the course. The online exam (CBT) is usually conducted in English and lasts 2 hours. It has 100 multiple-choice questions based on subject knowledge and aptitude.

1. BITS HD (BITS Higher Degree Admission Test) 

BITS HD is conducted by BITS Pilani for admissions to its higher degree courses such as M.Sc and M.E. It is one of the best private institution entrance examination and admission is available in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. 
 
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree (B.Sc or B.E/B.Tech for M.Sc) with 60% marks. The test is an online objective test that includes two papers: Paper I (Common for everyone) and Paper II (subject-related test). Both papers are 90 minutes long each and consist of general and technical aptitude. 

BITS HD Exam Syllabus:

1. JNUEE (Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Exam) 

JNUEE is an entrance exam for M.Sc and other PG programmes conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, India's premier public research university. It's also known as ISRO-UGC NET 2019 Exam and is conducted by NTA for the PG courses of M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science. 
 
Entry requirements differ between programs, but you will usually need a bachelors degree in a related area. The test is conducted online, usually for 3 hours, and consists of objective questions. For admission to M.Sc Biotechnology, GAT-B is generally followed and for other M.Sc courses, it is JNUEE.
