SJCC was formally inaugurated by Sri Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala in the presence of the founder, His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil (Archbishop Emeritus) on 2nd July, 2005. The growing importance of the media and the desire of the Archdiocese of Changanassery to form excellent communicators with the right attitude have resulted in the establishment of Media Village. Media Village was dedicated to the nation by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India in order to provide right media vision to all with a well set goal of creating a value based media culture. It is this vision that has resulted in the forming of St Joseph College of Communication, the flagship unit of Media Village.
The College is open to all students irrespective of caste and creed; they are accepted and cherished as they are and are helped to grow in their cultural, social and religious tradition. It also aims at creating a just and humane society where dignity of the human person is respected, and unjust social structures are challenged, where a cultural heritage of Ahimsa, religious harmony and national integration are upheld, and the poor and the downtrodden are specially taken care of.
