NICHE started its journey as an Engineering College in 1989, driven by a vision to establish itself as a distinguished center of excellence in higher education characterized by uncompromising standards of discipline and ethics. The institution's commitment to excellence was recognized in 2006 when it was ranked as the 19th Best Engineering College by Anna University.
Subsequently, in 2007, NICHE received accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and was designated as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) in 2008. Additionally, it achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification, further attesting to its commitment to quality and excellence. The pivotal moment came in 2008 when NICHE was accorded Deemed-to-be-University status and was awarded Grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2015 and has been reaccredited by NAAC in 2022.
In the NIRF Ranking of 2016, NICHE secured the 66th Rank in the Engineering Stream and the 75th Rank in the University Stream, further affirming its position as a leading educational institution. Presently, NICHE boasts 11 faculties and 23 departments offering a diverse array of 28 undergraduate, 19 postgraduate programs, and research programs spanning Engineering, Arts, Science and Management disciplines.
All academic programs offered by NICHE have approvals from relevant statutory bodies such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), Director General of Shipping (DGS) and Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Furthermore, NICHE is proud to be a member of esteemed organizations including the International Association of Universities (IAU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), National Academic Depository (NAD) and National Digital Library of India (NDL).
