Dharmsinh Desai University (DDU), formerly known as Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT), is a publicly funded institution located in Nadiad, Gujarat, India. Established on 2 January 1968, the university has a rich history and was initially founded by Dharmsinh Desai, a Member of Parliament, with a primary focus on providing higher education in Engineering and Technology.
The institute attained autonomous status under Gujarat University in 1991 and received Deemed University status in June 2000. Notably, in 2005, it gained full university status and underwent a name change to Dharmsinh Desai University. The university expanded its academic offerings over the years, introducing a Bachelor's course in Dental Surgery in 2005 and establishing the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2006.
Dharmsinh Desai University holds the distinction of being the first university in Gujarat to receive permission to offer Nanotechnology courses in 2012, showcasing its commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in education and technology. Additionally, in the academic year 2019–20, the university was granted permission by the Medical Council of India to establish a new Medical college, further diversifying its academic portfolio.
This university has played a pivotal role in contributing to the educational landscape of Gujarat, offering a range of courses and programs across various disciplines. It continues to evolve and expand its academic offerings to meet the changing demands of the educational and professional landscape.
