Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the National Institute of Technology in the country. The Govt. on the Institute, the status of the Deemed to be University (under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)) from 26th June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. declared to be an Institute of National Importance and is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in the central part of India. The Act had come into effect from 15th August 2007.
Previously, the Institute was known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE). It was founded in 1960 under the government scheme. of India and Govt. of Maharashtra. The college was established in June 1960 by the merger of the State Govt. at Nagpur since July. 1956. The College was renamed in the meeting held in October1962 as Sir M.Visvesvaraya College of Engineering to honor the great engineer, planner and statesman of the country Sir.M.Visvesvaraya.
The main aim of setting up of the REC's was to provide technical education across the country and to ensure national integration. The campus The College commenced functioning in 1960 in a temporary camp office in the premises of Govt. Polytechnic, Sadar, Nagpur & at a later stage about 214 acres was acquired at the present location to house the independent Regional Engineering College.
