The institute is spread over a large, open, airy campus of 32 acres, situated 7 km away from the city. The institute was established with the prime objective to promote technical education in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. The institute is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiks Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, and Vikram Vishwavidyalaya, Ujjian.
