On April 1, 2006, the National Institute of Technology Agartala officially began a new chapter when the Government of India transitioned the former Tripura Engineering College into a member of the prestigious NIT family. This upgrade, authorized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, recognized the institution's growing impact and academic potential. At the time of this historic milestone, the college was already a vibrant hub for technical education, offering undergraduate programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, and Production Engineering.
