RBU got set up under Punjab Act No. 16 of 2014. That happened through notification No. 17-Leg/2014 on the 13th of August 2014. UGC notified it under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. They empowered it to award degrees with letter No. 8-23/2014 (CPP-I/PU) dated 26th September 2014 from the University Grants Commission.
