About University of Mysore
The University of Mysore's foundation was laid on 27, July, 1916, and is the sixth oldest university in the county, first in the Karnataka State. Also in some sense it is the first university of the country which is established in India out side the British territory. The University was established due to the vision and magnanimity of His Highness Shri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar -IV (1884-1940) Maharaja of the erstwhile Princely State of Mysore and the then Diwan Sir M. Visvesvaraya (1860-1962). The University of Mysore was the first University to receive NAAC accreditation in 2000 with Five Star Status. The University of Mysore is located in Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka. Mysuru was the capital of Wadiyar dynasty. The city has a richness of palaces, temples, and gardens. Mysuru is a beautiful tourist centre, and is noted for its historical monuments and architectural distinctiveness, it is also well known for silk and sandalwood oil and ivory and sandalwood artifacts. Mysuru city has beautiful climate for majority of months. Mysuru is situated 140 k.m. south-west of the state's capital city, Bengaluru, and is well connected by railway, road, and air.
