About Scottish Church College
European education mixed with Christian teachings greatly motivated missionaries in 19th-century India. Scottish Church College started in 1830 as the General Assembly's Institution (renamed in 1929) from this drive.
Rev. Alexander Duff, the first Church of Scotland missionary to India, founded it. He wanted a school blending Western learning, Christian values, and societal progress. Today, the college upholds his vision—focusing on top academics, social responsibility, and strong character, making it a noteworthy mention among bba colleges in kolkata.
As North Calcutta's second-oldest college, it produced icons like Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. UGC recognizes it as a "College with Potential for Excellence," and media lists it among India's top 50 colleges.
Now run by the Church of North India (Calcutta diocese), it's affiliated with Calcutta University but autonomous for PG studies. It offers Hons in 15 UG subjects, PG in two, and B.Ed. for women.
