About Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS)
Established in 1986, the Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust set out with a clear mission: to deliver medical relief, advance education, and foster research. It all began with the launch of Saveetha Dental College in 1988, complete with an attached general hospital. From there, the Trust expanded its reach by founding colleges in nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and engineering—aimed at serving communities, especially in rural villages around Chennai and nearby Tamil Nadu districts. To meet University Grants Commission standards for "Deemed to be University" status, the Trust sponsored the Saveetha Institute of Medical & Technical Sciences (SIMATS) in 2001. In 2005, SIMATS earned that prestigious designation under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 (via Government of India Notification No. F.9-3/2002-U.3 dated March 18), bringing its three key institutions under the umbrella of what is now Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) (Deemed to be University).
