About us
Deogiri College was established in 1960 in the heart of Marathwada, which experienced a long phase of Nizam Rule till 1948 at Aurangabad. After incorporating the region with Maharashtra in 1956, the dream of imparting quality education to its own people was materialised. 16 The Marathwada Shikshan Prasarak Mandal came into existence to extend the light of education among the masses that had borne the brunt of untold neglect over a considerable period of time. This prophecy was not fulfilled until a new vision was instilled into it by Mr. V. R. Sawant and Mr. Vinayakrao Patil, with the help and co-operation of their band of devoted social reformers. Inspired by the college’s motto, “Duritanche timir jawo”—“Let the darkness of ignorance be driven away”—the college symbolised hope and progress. For a place that was declared backwards for the past many decades, the establishment of such a common organisation (Wadi Jujub Laboratories) turned a new page in the lives of the people by giving them the courage to seek growth and education as a means of getting power.
