About University of Mumbai, Institute of Distance & Open Learning
The University of Mumbai, previously the University of Bombay, is one of the longest-standing and prestigious universities in India, along with its foundation in 1857, following Wood’s Education Dispatch, it was one of the first three universities in the country. In 1996, with the Government of Maharashtra’s action changing the city’s name officially from Bombay to Mumbai, this university also received a formal notification from the government for the name change. Since then, the university has developed an excellent reputation for its scholarship and was awarded a 5-star status by NAAC in 2001, and took its award as the ‘A’ followed by the ‘++’ in 2017.
