Founded in 1952 as the Institute of Armament Studies, the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) evolved over the decades, first becoming the Institute of Armament Technology, and ultimately, in 2006, earning the status of a Deemed University under the Ministry of Defence. Recognised by the UGC under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, DIAT today stands as a Category 'A' Deemed University, accredited by both NAAC and NBA. As an autonomous institution under the Department of Defence Research and Development, it is dedicated to imparting high-end education, training, and research in advanced and defence-oriented technologies—all aimed at bolstering India's national security and self-reliance through innovation and excellence
