About us
The Delhi School of Economics (DSE), founded in 1949, was built with the vision of becoming a hub for excellence in teaching and research in the social sciences. Its first Director, Professor V.K.R.V. Rao, with the support of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, imagined an institution that would train students not only in rigorous theory and quantitative skills but also in understanding the larger social and economic challenges facing the country. From its earliest days, DSE has been committed to producing leaders in economics and allied fields who can shape policy, research, and development at both national and global levels. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s call to serve the poor and downtrodden, a message still inscribed in the School’s Swami Vivekananda Hall, the institution reminds every generation of students that education must combine intellectual strength with social responsibility.
