The Department conducts state of the art training for undergraduates & postgraduates in the diagnosis & treatment planning of malocclusions in patients. Further, they are educated, guided, and trained regarding the ill effects and treatment of malocclusions in different types of patients. The students are also made aware of motivational skills so as to motivate the patients to undergo treatment. In a nutshell, the students are able to provide the best treatment using contemporary techniques.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE

• The department’s objective is to impart knowledge of Prenatal and postnatal growth of the head, face, and bone growth. They must also be able to do an assessment of growth and development, muscles of mastication, Development of dentition, and occlusion.
• They must know the Basic anatomy, growth, metabolism as well as basic Dental Materials to be used in the treatment. Under Dental Materials, they must know about Gypsum products, impression materials, acrylics, composites, banding and bonding cement, wrought metal alloys, orthodontic archwires and brackets, elastics, applied physics, specification, tests methods, etc.
• To impart confidence while patient dealing and public awareness campaigns.
• They must know about applied research in orthodontics as well as recent ongoing trends too.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

• After passing out the student is supposed to possess the knowledge of concepts of occlusion and aesthetics.
• The student must possess the knowledge of Etiology and Classification of malocclusion.
• Knowledge of Dentofacial anomalies and their management
• Knowledge of Child Psychology and management.
• Knowledge of Cepahlometrics and its interpretation.
• Knowledge of Practice management and basic principles used in Mechanotherapy in Orthodontics.
• Knowledge of Myofunctional appliances and biology in tooth movement and management.
