The Placement Team (OCCaP)
The Office of Career Counselling and Placement (OCCaP), led by a Committee of Professors, is the only official authority managing all placement activities at IISc. They have the final say and can change rules as needed, so all questions or issues must go through them first.
Eligibility & Getting Started
Who can register? Any full-time student expecting to graduate by July 31st and actively looking for a job is eligible. Registration opens twice a year (August and January).
Who can't register? If you have four or more backlogs, or if you're a part-time student, Research Assistant, or Project Assistant, you are ineligible to use the placement services.
Is Registration Required? Yes, if you want OCCaP to help you find a job or internship. If you are not seeking a placement, you don't need to register.
Process & Rules
Accuracy is Paramount: When you register, you must provide accurate personal and academic details. Any attempt to misrepresent information will lead to immediate suspension from the placement process.
Communication: All essential updates are sent exclusively to your IISc email—check it frequently!
Accessing Jobs: You are responsible for monitoring the OCCaP portal for company announcements and application deadlines. No extensions are granted.
Commitment: Once you apply for a company, you must see the process through. You generally cannot voluntarily withdraw mid-way.
Handling Outside Offers
PPO Disclosure: If you receive a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) or an off-campus offer, you must immediately inform OCCaP.
Seeking a Better Offer: If you hold a PPO, you can still apply to a maximum of two other companies (until December) only if the new potential offer is at least 20% higher than your existing PPO salary.
Non-Disclosure Penalty: Hiding any offer will result in the cancellation of all your campus placement opportunities.
