Founded in 1952 as the Institute of Armament Studies, the institution found its current identity as the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in 2006, when it was granted Deemed University status under UGC Section 3. Now a Category ‘A’ deemed university, fully accredited by both NAAC and NBA, and operating under the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) within the Ministry of Defence, DIAT is devoted to delivering cutting-edge postgraduate education, training, and research across advanced and defence-oriented technology domains.
