Highlights The B.E. in Agricultural Engineering at Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology combines engineering knowledge with modern agricultural practices to address challenges in food production, sustainability, irrigation, mechanisation, and rural development. Launched in 2021, the programme focuses on developing technically skilled professionals who can apply engineering solutions to improve farming systems, agricultural productivity, and post-harvest management. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on training through laboratories, field visits, internships, workshops, and industry interactions. The programme also fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and research in areas related to sustainable agriculture and agri-technology.
B.E. in Agriculture Engineering
The Agricultural Engineering programme at AIET is structured to help students understand how engineering principles can be applied to improve agricultural productivity, resource management, food processing, and sustainable farming practices. The curriculum introduces students to major areas, including soil and water conservation, irrigation and drainage engineering, farm machinery and power systems, renewable energy applications, food processing technology, post-harvest management, and farm structures.
The programme gives equal importance to practical learning and industry exposure. Students are trained through laboratory sessions, demonstration farms, field visits, industrial interaction, internships, and project activities that help them understand real agricultural and agro-industrial challenges. The department encourages students to participate in Krishi Melas, exhibitions, technical programmes, workshops, and innovation-driven activities that strengthen both technical knowledge and practical confidence. Students also receive opportunities to work on research-based projects and live applications related to smart farming, precision agriculture, and sustainable agricultural systems.
The department is supported by laboratories and practical facilities, including the Soil Mechanics Lab, Farm Machinery and Power Workshop, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Lab, Food Processing and Post-Harvest Lab, Surveying Equipment, GIS tools, and digital classrooms. These facilities provide hands-on exposure to agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, processing equipment, and modern engineering tools used in the agri-industry. Students are also encouraged to explore entrepreneurship opportunities through incubation support and innovation activities offered by the institution.
The programme additionally focuses on developing leadership qualities, communication skills, teamwork, ethics, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are prepared for opportunities in agri-industries, food processing companies, irrigation projects, government organisations, research institutions, banking sectors, renewable energy systems, and agri-tech startups. The department aims to produce engineers who can contribute meaningfully towards sustainable agriculture, rural development, and food security.
