Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, was established on 2nd october 1972 by the Legislature of the State of Andhra Pradesh as the first Technological University in the country. It has been in the forefront for the past 44 years in providing quality technological education of relevance in the State of Andhra Pradesh. After 36 years of existence it was restructured into 4 different Universities by the Government vide Government Ordinance No.13, dated 18th August 2008 and Act of State Legislature No.30 dated September 2008 and this new University has been designated as Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH).
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University College of Engineering Hyderabad (Autonomous), formerly known as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, was established in 1965 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and administrated under the control of the Department of Technical Education and affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. With the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) on 2nd October 1972, the college was made as a constituent college of the University and eventually renamed as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad. It is also recognized among the leading BTech Colleges in Hyderabad, known for its strong academic foundation and legacy in technical education.
The college activities are observed and supported by the budgetary allocations from the State Government. Specific grants from various funding agencies such as UGC, MHRD, AICTE, DST, DRDO are also sought from time to time for the development of the college. The college has received funds from Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) - A World Bank-Aided Project. The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee mark in 1990.
