Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) was established by the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi in May 2013, under Delhi Act 09 of 2012. As a non-affiliating university, it promotes studies, research, technology, innovation, incubation, and extension activities in professional education for women, focusing on engineering, technology, applied sciences, architecture, and allied fields to achieve excellence.
The institution originated as Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) in 1998, the first women-only engineering college under the Directorate of Training and Technical Education. It became a constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 2002, earning recognition as a premier institution in Delhi and North India. Since 2013, IGDTUW has expanded to offer B.Tech programs in computer science, information technology, electronics and communication, and robotics and automation; pioneering M.Tech programs in information security management, mobile pervasive computing, VLSI design, and robotics; Ph.D. programs from 2014; and B.Arch from 2015. Committed to high-quality teaching, competitive research, and knowledge creation, it undertakes sponsored projects with organizations like Microsoft, Nokia, and the Department of Science & Technology. The Anveshan incubation center supports women entrepreneurs, while a dynamic pedagogy emphasizes problem-solving, evidence-based reasoning, and industry-aligned curricula, achieving 100% placements with companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, and Tata Motors.
