Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, headquartered in Patan, Gujarat, is a state university established under Ordinance No. 5 of 1986 and later recognised by the North Gujarat University Act No. 22 of 1986. The university was established to meet the distinct cultural and educational needs of five districts: Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli. Patan, chosen as the university headquarters, holds deep historical significance as the former capital of the Solanki rulers and an important centre of Jain scholarship.
