Highlights The department of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at CMC, Vellore was the first to start a super-specialty course in South India with the DNB in Endocrinology in 2001. Now in the year 2011, the department has introduced the first MCI certified course in Tamil Nadu in the form of the DM in Endocrinology. The course has a strong foundation considering the teaching and research experience of the department for the last 17 years. The necessity to train a stream of fellows exclusively for diabetes has been recognized and a 1-year in-house training programme offered as a post-doctoral fellowship in diabetes has also been implemented since 2008.
