The GNM programme is carefully structured over three academic years, along with mandatory clinical training and internship components. Throughout the course, students are introduced to a comprehensive range of subjects that build a strong foundation in nursing science and patient care. In the first year, emphasis is placed on anatomy and physiology, nutrition, microbiology, psychology, sociology, and fundamentals of nursing, allowing students to understand the human body and the basic principles of caregiving. As the programme progresses, learners move into more specialised areas such as medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology, child health nursing, mental health nursing, obstetrics and gynaecological nursing, and community health nursing.
Clinical training forms the backbone of the course. Students are posted in various hospital departments, including general wards, maternity units, paediatric wards, emergency units, and community health centres. Under supervision, they learn patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, maternal assistance, newborn care, infection control practices, and documentation procedures. Regular case presentations, group discussions, and skill assessments reinforce theoretical knowledge through practice. By the time students complete the internship phase, they are trained to independently handle routine nursing responsibilities with professionalism and care.
