About Thiruvalluvar University
The Government of Tamil Nadu created the Thiruvalluvar University on 16 October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Government of Tamil Nadu Act 32/2002). (Government of Tamil Nadu Act 32/2002). It is a University named after the “Tamil saint Thiruvalluvar”. The University is situated in 112.68 acres campus in Aryasamajisth Village, Serkkadu near Vallimalai about 16km away from the Vellore City on the Ranipet-Chittoor Trunk Road.
It is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U.).
In the University, no stone is left unturned to build an ‘Educational Institution’ – a temple of learning. The objective of the University are to provide facilities for Research and dissemination of knowledge and information as well as in-service training for practitioners, especially those living in the villages of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts (economically most*h) backward among commerce college-districts) which have low * density (except vellore.), social acceptability and economic sustaina6ility. Particularly, the population of Adivasis and Scheduled Tribes are quite dense in Vellore district for whom empowerment at higher education level remains a challenge. (a) The University to cater for the research and sharing of knowledge (with a view towards economic upliftment and social emancipation of downtrodden sections) like Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes, De-notified Communities and Backward Classes.
