Highlights M.Sc. Clinical Nutrition is a two year in-service training program followed by six months of compulsory residential internship. About us
The Christian Medical College is an unaided, non-captitation, Christian minority educational institution admitting students on merit on an all-India basis. The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore was established and is maintained by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association, a registered society, formed by over 50 different Indian Christian churches and Christian organisations which run over 225 hospitals, health centres and dispensaries throughout the length and breadth of this country, many of which are situated in remote rural areas. The purpose of the Christian Medical College, therefore, is to train dedicated persons to manage, run and provide health care in the spirit of Christ through the mission hospitals. The motto of the institution is: “Not To Be Ministered Unto, But To Minister” In 2018, the Christian Medical College Vellore proudly celebrated the completion of a hundred years of Medical Education, which began in 1918, bringing to fruition the dream of our visionary founder, Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder.
Programme Outcome and Approaches.
A M.Sc in clinical nutrition trains professionals to work as experts in dietetics and medical nutrition therapy planning and preparing diets to patients with common and special health care needs. Graduates may go on to become clinical nutritionists, dietitians, health policy makers and advisors, and researchers in hospitals, wellness centres, food industries, NGOs and government health departments. The degree also creates opportunities in academia and research for graduates, with some students proceeding to attain a Ph.D programs or have postgraduate training or certification in dietetics and nutrition.
The curriculum takes the form of a scientific and clinically directed programmed of study that concentrates on the application of advanced human nutrition, metabolism, diet therapy, public health nutrition and research methods. The theoretical knowledge and practical training are acquired by the students through hospital postings, case studies, dietary assessments and dissertation work. Focus is on evidence-based nutrition intervention strategies, patient education, and interdisciplinary health care collaboration. Combining medical science and diet planning, the course prepares graduates to work with systems for a better health situation, to manage disease symptoms through diet, and to participate in preventive and therapeutic healthcare work.
