M.Sc. Hons. in Physiology at KLE University, Belgaum
The M.Sc. Physiology (Medical) program at KLE is a full-time, three-year postgraduate degree divided into six semesters. In the first two semesters, students study core subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry to build a strong foundation in basic sciences. Starting in the third semester, the curriculum emphasises physiology—covering all major systems, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal systems—and integrates lectures with laboratory work, experimental physiology, and practical demonstrations. Additionally, students are trained in research methodology, epidemiology, and biostatistics—preparing them to design and conduct scientific studies. Elective modules enable students to explore subspecialties, including neurophysiology, exercise physiology, nutrition science, biomedical ethics, communication for pedagogy, blood banking, and intersections like the physiological aspects of yoga or advanced lab techniques, such as animal experiments (where permitted). As part of the program, students typically undertake at least one research project under supervision and may be encouraged to present or publish their findings. By the end of the course, graduates should understand the physiological basis of health and disease, be capable of interpreting and designing experiments or studies, and be prepared for roles in teaching, research, clinical laboratory work, or related fields in the medical and health sciences.
