Infrastructure
NIST's academic buildings serve as the hub of intellectual engagement. These buildings house most of the classrooms, high-end laboratories, and faculty offices, all seamlessly connected through fiber-optic internet to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. Each academic block is department-specific, promoting collaborative learning and innovation among students and faculty.
Galleria:
The Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) is a five-storeyed building spread over 60,000 sq.ft., featuring modern classrooms, electronics, machines, and computer science laboratories. It also houses the central server room and administrative offices. The Galleria, a four-storeyed architectural marvel spanning 100,000 sq.ft., is home to 12 large lecture halls, a 250-seat auditorium, the High-Performance Computing Lab, the IBM Centre for Excellence, and the NIST Technology Consultancy Services (NTCS).
Octagon:
The Octagon is a multi-functional structure containing a modern computer center, internet room, computerized library, classrooms, two faculty rooms, and a cafeteria that can seat over 150 people.
Atrium:
The Atrium is the latest and one of the largest additions to the infrastructure, housing 25 classrooms, 11 advanced laboratories (including Chemistry, Physics, C-Lab, Language Lab), 13 faculty rooms, the Student Activities Center, and the NIST Business School with its own well-equipped library.
Tifac:
The TIFAC CORE Building stands as a prestigious research center dedicated to 3G/4G communication technologies, equipped with state-of-the-art labs for VLSI, Embedded Systems, Nanotechnology, and Optical Communication. It also features seminar halls, classrooms, and research rooms.
Core:
The CORE Building, another five-storeyed facility, serves as the central hub for advanced research and innovation, with labs furnished with the latest equipment, individual workstations, and data and power ports in every room.
In addition to these, the campus includes facilities such as a workshop, advanced research center, entrepreneurship development center, transport office, yoga center, gymnasium, bookstore, photocopy center, and an ATM. The boys’ hostel accommodates 600 students while the girls’ hostel houses 500, both equipped with modern amenities. A semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool adds to the sports infrastructure, and an indoor stadium and residential complex for staff and faculty are underway.
Academic Laboratories
Each department at NIST features state-of-the-art laboratories designed for teaching, research, and consultancy. These labs provide students with practical exposure and opportunities to work closely with faculty on real-world projects, enhancing the learning experience beyond classrooms.
The Computer Science and Engineering department includes foundational labs like Microprocessor & Microcontroller, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Database Engineering, and Software Engineering, alongside research labs such as the High-Performance Computing Lab, Cryptography Lab, Computer Vision Lab, IoT Lab, and IBM & CISCO labs.
The Electronics and Communication Engineering department houses advanced labs including Device Fabrication, Antenna Fabrication, Microwave Measurement, VLSI, FPGA, Embedded Systems, and a 3G/4G Communication Lab. The Electrical and Electronics Engineering department is equipped with both basic and research labs focusing on Power Systems, Smart Grids, Renewable Energy, Process Automation, and Electrical Simulation.
In Mechanical Engineering, students gain hands-on experience in labs for Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, IC Engines, Manufacturing Processes, and Fluid Mechanics. The Civil Engineering department features labs for Structural Engineering, Transportation, Geotechnics, Environmental Studies, and Surveying.
Campus Hostels
NIST offers spacious and modern hostel accommodations with a capacity for over 2,000 students. Each hostel block includes a dedicated mess, administrative office, hostel superintendent, and caretakers. Facilities include fully furnished rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, washing machines, and access to a medical center. Recreational amenities and sports areas are also provided to ensure a well-rounded residential experience. The hostels are named after renowned figures—Albert Einstein, Rabindranath Tagore, and Marie Curie—symbolizing the institution’s emphasis on academic and cultural growth.
Sports Facilities
At NIST, sports and co-curricular activities play a vital role in student life. The campus includes a fully-equipped indoor stadium with facilities for Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Chess, and Carrom, along with a gymnasium. Outdoor facilities feature a large cricket ground, a basketball court, volleyball and lawn tennis courts that host inter-college competitions.
The semi-Olympic swimming pool offers professional training and regular student competitions, while the squash court and wall climbing area provide options for fitness and adventure. Adventure sports like windsurfing, paragliding, river rafting, hill biking, and zorbing are organized regularly, encouraging students to challenge themselves and take part in exciting activities. Traditional games such as Kho-Kho are also included in the annual sports events.
Transport Services
The university runs a robust transport system with a fleet of 18 buses and 6 cars operated by a team of 50+ staff members. These services cover areas like Berhampur, Gopalpur, and Chikiti, ensuring timely and safe transportation for students and staff. Buses operate around the clock to align with academic and personal needs, reflecting NIST’s commitment to convenience and accessibility.
Medical Facilities
Health and safety are a priority at NIST. The campus has a 24/7 on-site medical dispensary staffed by trained healthcare professionals, capable of handling general consultations, emergencies, and first aid. Two fully-equipped ambulances are on standby, ensuring immediate response during medical emergencies. The medical team also conducts regular health check-ups, vaccination drives, and wellness programs, creating a safe and healthy environment for the university community.
