Until the forties, poor people in Virudhunagar dreamed about the very word, education, let alone higher education. With this as a setting, the generous and liberal-hearted citizens of the borough of this town had long been hankering after a college of their own. The concept of the college came out in June, 1947 at that held in Kovilpatti of Nadar Mahajana Sangam.

He then told Rao Bahadur M.S.P. Senthikumara Nadar who was on the dais that he was donating Rs.2 lakhs immediately for setting up a college in his town Virudhunagar. Immediately, a Committee was appointed to facilitate the opening of an Institute. It comprised Thiru P.S.Chidambara Nadar, Thiru V.V.Ramasamy Nadar and Thiru M.S.Periasamy Nadar. The committee unanimously decided that a college should be commenced at once, that it should be known as the donor college. Mr. Thiru M S Periasamy Nadar was kind enough to gift and purchase one hundred and fifty acres of land on Aruppukottai road for the college. 11th August 1947 was the date when Virudhunagar Senthikumara Nadar College came to be established. For the conduct of the new institution, a small committee was.Elected with Mr.w:.P.A.soundra pandian Nadar as the President, Mr.P.s.chidambara Nadar as the Vice - President, Mr. V.V.ramasamy as the.Secretary.and Correspondent Mr.M.s.periasamy NadarT the Treasurer.

The Patron of the college is Rao Bahadur Senthikumara Nadar. In 1948, the Nadar Mahamai Tharappu a Hindu took control of the college. The succeeding Boards of the Management of this college were good, honest men, practical business men, each in his own business, and succeeded to a large degree—to a very large degree. They nurtured the nascent institution. Then came the auspicious entry of the benevolent hindu community of the place, the "Samaj" which supported the college. With their ever-ready generosity and help the college made a factor phenomenal expansion and developed in to a post-graduate institution in 1967. Today After seven Decades of Starting VHNSN College has gone strength to strength reaching new altitudes and achieving a numbers of milestones in academic path.
