Highlights Faculty of Commerce was established in 1971. In 1986 Post- Graduate of Commerce, in 1990 M.Phil. (Commerce), and in 2013 Center for Higher Learning and Research in Commerce was Started. Now, Center of Higher learning and Research (CHLR) known as a Institute of Higher Learning Research and Specialized Studies (IHLRSS). In the beginning Faculty of Commerce has conduct classes in Marathi Medium only. After that in the year 1993-1994 English Medium has Started. At Present the total strength of Faculty are 1547 Students including PG Level (1231 Students in B. Com and 316 Students in M.Com.) one of the leading Faculty in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli District and also in Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. The Faculty has running Institute of Higher Learning Research and Specialized Studies (IHLRSS). Total 13 Research Scholars were awarded Ph.D. Degree from the establishment of Research Center. Currently 24 Research Scholars are perusing their Ph.D. Under the different Guides and under the Subject of Business Management and Administration, Business Economics and Commerce Board. The well qualified Staff including qualified CHB Lecturers is the assets of the Faculty.

Sardar Patel Mahavidyalaya was established in 1970 with an aim to provide quality education to students from rural and backward region of Chandrapur district, Maharashtra. The college offers number of basic and professional programmes from undergraduate to research level in Arts, Commerce, Science and other faculties. All the programmes are directed towards realization of our Vision and Mission and achieving our objectives in keeping with the values set by Sarvodaya Shikshan Mandal. Around 5500 students are enrolled under all courses excluding junior college with 49 university approved faculty members. Among enrolled students 67% students are girls and about 78% students belongs to socially and economically backward class. Sarvodaya Shikshan Mandal was awarded with Best Management award by Government of Maharashtra.
The college was assessed and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore in March 2004 and awarded with „B++‟ Grade. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established on the recommendations of the Peer Team for enhancing the quality of academics in the college on 10th July 2010. The college was assessed and accredited for its second cycle by NAAC and awarded „B’ Grade with 2.85 CGPA on 8th January 2011. After second cycle by NAAC, affiliation of college is changed from RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur to Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. The members of Sarvodaya Shikshan Mandal’s, Sardar Patel Mahavidyalaya, have been in search of excellence in various fields of life. Under the dynamic leadership of Hon‟ble Shri Shantaramji Potdukhe, Ex. Union Minister of State for Finance and all the members of Sarvodaya Shikshan Mandal, Chandrapur the college has emerged as a premier institute of higher learning of education and research in eastern Vidarbha. The joint efforts of teaching and non teaching staff members have contributed to this achievement.
As a mark of excellence the college conducts academic, cultural, sports and other regional, state and national level meets. The college research magazine SPM Journal of Academic Research (SPM JAR) is now reputed journal among academicians and SPM Students Research Magazine is also highly acclaimed magazine for promotion of research aptitude among students and research scholar.
