For the second successive year, Women’s Christian College was ranked by India Today in August 2021, as the 2nd Best Emerging College in Commerce of this Century, taking into consideration colleges in India whose first batch of B.Com. had graduated in or after the year 2000. Started in 1998, the degree programme continues to stand the test of time due to its periodic curriculum revision ensuring that the latest industrial developments and technological updates are incorporated, while any existing obsolete components are eliminated. The curriculum comprises a well-built base in the fundamentals of core areas of commerce and business related electives.
Upon the base, a strong structure of knowledge and skills is developed through the seminars and workshops conducted and research undertaken. Students are also encouraged to take up socially relevant projects in an effort to bring about awareness in them of their potentially valuable contributions, as educated youth to the society. The industry based and ICT enabled assignments given for various courses adds to the core strength of the department. In addition, hands-on learning experience provided by on-the-job training in the industry ensures a smooth transition to the work environment.
Blended teaching methods and the roles adopted by the qualified and dedicated faculty dependent on student needs, creates an immersive learning experience that enhances student participation in classroom activities. Introduction of MOOC module through NPTEL since 2018, has given students different perspectives on core subjects. Students can also pursue learning in areas other than their expertise and benefit from networking opportunities across the country. The epartment also partners with NGOs to provide opportunities for students to serve the community.
