MDS in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery deals with teaching, evaluating, carrying out research, and providing surgical healthcare services in the diagnosis and treatment of trauma, diseases, deformities, and defects of the face and jaws.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE

• To make the students well versed with the basic knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry
• To make the student well trained to perform minor oral surgical procedures including dental implants
• To make the student well trained to handle medical emergencies arising during dental treatment
• To make the student equipped to handle trauma in the maxillofacial region.
• To handle major oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

• After completion of the course, the student must be well versed with the knowledge of the Development and growth of the face, teeth, and jaws. He must also possess the knowledge of Age-related changes and evaluation of these structures in detail.
• The student must possess the knowledge and concepts of applied physiology including hemostasis, wound management, and infection.
• The students would be well trained in the assessment and management of:
• Basic and complicated Exodontia
• Surgical management of Impacted teeth / unerupted teeth
• Facial aesthetic surgery
• Surgical treatment of pathologies in the maxillofacial region
• Basic and Complicated Implant surgery
• Periodontal Considerations for Oral Surgery
• Maxillofacial Trauma
• Dentoalveolar Surgery in Pediatric Patients
• Complications of Dentoalveolar Surgery
• The students must possess the knowledge of Cleft lip and palate surgery and craniofacial surgery as well.
