Highlights The Bachelor of Physiotherapy course is of four year’s duration, followed by a six month compulsory rotating internship. Students enroll in this course after completing 12 years of school. The annual intake is limited to ten students. Optimisation of maximal abilities and function, for leading a reasonably independent and productive life, in the presence of disabilities is the major focus of education and training. The course comprises of didactic classroom teaching and demonstration in the first year. In the subsequent years (2nd, 3rd, 4th), clinical teaching is added with equal emphasis on didactic and practical classes. Subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Exercise Therapy, Electrotherapy, Biomechanics, Clinical Orthopedics, Neurology, and Cardiopulmonary are some of the topics that are included in the study. At the end of the study program, the students are equipped to use physical agents and principles like force, heat energy, sound energy, light energy etc., to treat and alleviate pain and disability caused by various illnesses and ailments. Besides using specialized equipments like LASER, Short Wave Diathermy, Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation, Interferential therapy to produce and enhance healing and recovery using the above said Physical principles. Manual Therapy which emphasizes a “Hands on” approach without using specialized equipment is also used. Physical therapy is an expanding field with a good jib market both in India and abroad. Selection into the program is competitive. From the origin as a diploma program, it has moved to a degree program. Masters and Doctoral programs are available in a few Institutions in India.

The Christian Medical College is an unaided, non-captitation, Christian minority educational institution admitting students on merit on an all-India basis. The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore was established and is maintained by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association, a registered society, formed by over 50 different Indian Christian churches and Christian organisations which run over 225 hospitals, health centres and dispensaries throughout the length and breadth of this country, many of which are situated in remote rural areas. The purpose of the Christian Medical College, therefore, is to train dedicated persons to manage, run and provide health care in the spirit of Christ through the mission hospitals. The motto of the institution is: “Not To Be Ministered Unto, But To Minister” In 2018, the Christian Medical College Vellore proudly celebrated the completion of a hundred years of Medical Education, which began in 1918, bringing to fruition the dream of our visionary founder, Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme is designed to provide students with the ability to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate those with physical disabilities, movement disorders or injury. After completion of the course graduates can work as physiotherapist in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports clinic, and wellness centres or can start their own independent practice also. They are crucial factors that lead to improved mobility, pain reduction and life quality for the patients. There are a huge number of possibilities when in comes to career paths such as orthopaedic or neurological rehabilitation, paediatric, or sports physiotherapy. Many also pursue higher studies such asMPT(Master of Physiotherapy) or some special courses to move ahead in the clinical or research or teaching field.
The program is hands-on, practical theory. Anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise therapy, electrotherapy and rehabilitation sciences are among the subjects taught to students. "They supplement the classroom learning with clinical postings, internships and actual working with patients. Skills taught in the course concentrate on problem-solving, patient-focused care, and evidence-based practice. Through a combination of exercise based therapy, manual therapy and technology we prepare graduates to help people restore healthy living, promote recovery and enhance physical performance for healthy populations and patients dealing with a variety of conditions.
