About Vardhman Mahavir Medical College - [VMMC], New Delhi
Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) was established in November 2001 at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, by the Government of India. It was formally inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 17th December 2001 in the presence of Shri L.K. Advani, Shri C.P. Thakur, and the Founder Principal Dr. Jagdish Prasad. Later, on 20th November 2007, the college building was dedicated to the nation by the Vice President Shri M. Hamid Ansari, with the Health Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss present on the occasion. The first batch of MBBS students was admitted in February 2002, and while postgraduate courses (MD/MS) in clinical subjects were already being conducted at Safdarjung Hospital before VMMC’s establishment, courses in pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects were added in 2011. Over the years, the number of MD/MS seats has grown, and today, the college also offers super-speciality programs like M.Ch and DM.
Affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, VMMC has emerged as one of India’s leading medical institutions, even being recognized as a “Medical Marvel” by India Today Aspire in 2013. Safdarjung Hospital, its teaching hospital, is the largest under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with over 1,550 beds and an annual OPD attendance of more than 10 lakh patients. Together, VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital provide advanced patient care and facilities across various specialities and super-specialities including cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurology, nephrology, urology, gastroenterology, paediatric surgery, burns and plastic surgery, and respiratory medicine. The hospital is equipped with modern technologies such as angiography, angioplasty, bypass surgeries, valve replacements, lithotripsy, sleep labs, video EEG, dialysis, MRI, spiral CT, automated blood analyzers, and more.
The college campus houses the Office of the Principal and the Academic Section on the ground floor, making it convenient for students to access services related to admissions, exams, fees, certificates, degrees, hostels, and scholarships.
