Highlights The MBBS programme at JISMSR is a 5½-year full-time course (4.5 years of academic study plus a 1-year rotating internship) that combines a structured medical curriculum with early and continuous clinical exposure. From the first year, students start with foundational subjects — Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry — to understand the human body’s structure and functions. As they advance, they study para-clinical disciplines like Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and then move into pre-clinical and para-clinical phases, including Community Medicine and Forensic Medicine. In later years, the focus shifts to full clinical training: rotations through General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, and other departments — working with real patients in a functioning hospital environment. The attached teaching hospital (a 500+ bed facility) ensures that from early on, students gain hands-on experience with diagnostics, wards, emergency care, OPDs, and diverse real-life medical cases. After completing all academic phases and the mandatory internship, graduates become eligible to practice medicine or pursue postgraduate studies.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at JIS School of Medical Science & Research
The MBBS course at JISMSR is designed as a comprehensive 5.5-year medical program that progresses from fundamental sciences to intense clinical training, integrating theory, laboratory work, patient interaction, and supervised hospital duties. Students begin with a thorough introduction to the human body through Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, which emphasize structure, function, and biochemical processes. As they advance, they transition into para-clinical learning through subjects like Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine, where they understand disease mechanisms, drug actions, diagnostics, and medico-legal responsibilities. The course then moves into clinical disciplines, where students spend significant time in departments such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, and Community Medicine. Clinical postings form a major part of this stage, enabling students to participate in ward management, outpatient services, emergency care, minor procedures, patient counselling, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Throughout the program, academic learning is supported by skills-lab sessions, simulation-based practices, case presentations, bedside teachings, and integrated teaching modules. The final one-year compulsory rotating internship deepens professional competence by placing students in real-world hospital settings across specialties, ensuring they graduate with practical experience, ethical grounding, and the ability to function effectively as junior doctors.
