University of Calcutta Master of Education (M.Ed) is a two year post graduate course in education which is undertaken over four semesters to master professional skills as well as deepen academic knowledge in education field. Having an intake of 50 students, 1/2 of the seats are to be occupied by deputed teachers and other half by fresh candidates, whose allocation is subject to rearrangement of vacant seats. The admission is based on performance in the career and an entrance test, but deputed candidates can be exempted. The applicants have to possess a degree in B.Ed or a four-year course of integrated teacher education BElEd, BScEd or BAEd with 55% marks and SC, ST and PWD candidates are allowed a 5 per cent concession. The program will develop teachers who possess good teaching, research, and leadership competence to make a significant impact on the education sector.
