About us
The Women’s Christian College, that was ranked as the single number one women’s college in South India by MHRD in 2017 NIRF rating, has carved a niche for itself with its exemplary quality of education and brilliant performance in teaching-learning, research and extension activities. WCC was established in 1915 by uniting 12 Missionary Societies from Britain, Canada and USA.
The college’s mission is to provide “a comprehensive, meaningful and quality education to young women in order that they are intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially aware and spiritually inspired.”
The College started with 41 students and a staff of 7. Current enrolment for the college exceed 4000 students while its teaching faculty and non-teaching staff totals 185 and 110, respectively. It is a self-financing Institution since 1982 matched to University of Madras.
It is awarded A+ Grade by NAAC, 2019. The College is recognized as College with Potential For Excellence CPE by UGC in 2016. The CPE status affirms the speed and direction of progress of the one hundred-year-old institution.
WCC offers various kinds of metacognitive & need-based PG& UG and PG/Research programs for the young women from national & regional communities of all sizes of families and socio-economic background. It is the fashion these days for colleges to pay heed to the diversification of students’ interests under the impact of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) introduced in 2004 and the Semester Abroad Programmes institutionalized over the last ten years. WCC is reinventing itself in the changed academic scenario for girls.
