About us
Women’s Christian College, ranked as one of the number one BSc colleges in Chennai and the top women’s college in South India by the MHRD in the 2017 NIRF ratings, has distinguished itself through its remarkable quality of education and outstanding performance in teaching, learning, research, and extension services. Established in 1915 through the collaboration of 12 Missionary Societies from Britain, Canada, and the USA, WCC has grown into a premier institution for women’s education.
The mission of the college is to give “a complete, meaningful and relevant education to young women so that they are intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially aware and spiritually inspired.”
The College was founded with student body of 41 and staff of 7. As of today, the college has a strength of more than 4000 students and 185 faculty with 110 non-teaching staff. It is an autonomous institution since 1982, which is affiliated to the University of Madras.
It is accredited by NAAC with A+ Grade in 2019. College was granted the status of College with Potential For Excellence (CPE) by UGC in 2016.The CPE status recognizes the pace and progress made by the institution since the last century.
WCC provides an array of metacognitive and need-driven PG & UG and research programs for the women drawn from national and regional communities cutting across the gamut of sizes of families and socio-economic profiles. By introducing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2004 and the Semester Abroad Programmes in the past decade, WCC is keeping in mirth with the diversification of students’ interests these days.
