About us
Women’s Christian College was awarded the ranking of Number One College among south Indian colleges for women by MHRD in 2017 NIRF rating with excellent quality of education and phenomenal performance in teaching-learning, research and outreach. WCC was established in 1915 by combining the 12 Missionary Societies from UK, Canada and USA.
The college’s mission is to provide “an integral, quality and relevant education to young women, so that they form intellectually well-rounded, morally upright, socially conscious and spiritually inspired persons.”
It was established as a private institution with a student body of 41 and staff of 7. As of today, the college runs with the student’s strength exceeding 4000 and 185 faculty members assisted by 110 members of non-teaching staff. It has been an independent school since 1982, that is affiliated to the University of Madras.
It has been awarded NAAC A+ Grade in 2019. The college was recognized as College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC in 2016. The CPE status acknowledges the rhythm and evolution that the university has undergone from the last century.
WCC offers a variety of metacognitive and need based PG & UG and research programme to women who come from across the national and regional interdisciplinary continuum families, and their corresponding socioeconomic and community grid. The introduction of the CBCS in 2004 and the Semester Abroad Programmes in the last decade, all indicate that the college is keeping in mirth with the variety of interests our students seem to have these days.
