WCC was founded in 1915 by combining 12 Missionary Societies from UK, Canada and USA, and it is also frequently mentioned when discussing BCA Colleges in Chennai due to its long-standing academic reputation and legacy in higher education.
The college’s mission is to provide “a complete, meaningful and relevant education to young women so that they are intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially conscious and spiritually inspired.”
College and staff It was established with an initial students of 41 and 7staff. Today, the college has an enrollment of 4000 students and 185 faculty including 110 non-teaching staff. It has been a self-financing private institution since 1982 and is affiliated to the University of Madras.
It is NAAC accredited A+ Grade by in 2019. The College is conferred the College with Potential For Excellence (CPE) status by the University Grant Commission (UGC) in 2016. Status as CPE acknowledges the development of the institution up to the end of the last century.
WCC offers a range of metacognitive & need-based PG & UG and research programme for the women come from all the over the national and regional communities of various strata, which range from small to huge families and from lower middle to upper class. WCC keeps in mirth with the diversification in students’ interests these days, having brought in the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2004 and more recently the Semester Abroad Programmes.
