About St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai
St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, was founded on January 2, 1869, and is named after Francis Xavier, the Jesuit saint of Goa. It remained an all-male institution until 1950, when it opened itself to female students. Situated in South Mumbai, the college is renowned for its striking and appealing Indo-Gothic architecture, a heritage structure. It became the premier college to be awarded academic independence by the University of Mumbai in 2010, and it has been recognised as an 'A+' grade institution by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
