The Christian Medical College is an unaided, non-captitation, Christian minority educational institution admitting students on merit on an all-India basis. The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore was established and is maintained by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association, a registered society, formed by over 50 different Indian Christian churches and Christian organisations which run over 225 hospitals, health centres and dispensaries throughout the length and breadth of this country, many of which are situated in remote rural areas. The purpose of the Christian Medical College, therefore, is to train dedicated persons to manage, run and provide health care in the spirit of Christ through the mission hospitals. Programme Outcome & Approaches
The Post Basic Diploma in Neonatal Nursing [PBDNN] is a programme developed for registered nurses who desire to enrich their knowledge and skills with regards to the care of the neonate, in particular those with high dependency needs. It prepares nurses with specialized knowledge in neonatal physiology, some common neonatal disorders, provision of care in neonatal intensive care, and emergency of neonates. Program graduates ready for work at NICUs (Neonatal Intensive Care Units), maternity hospitals, pediatricians’ offices, and community health institutions, promoting the best level on care for premature and seriously ill infants.
The philosophy of this program is a balance of theory and the application in clinical education. Nurse are instructed to perform neonatal resuscitation, participate in specialized procedure support and in use of advanced tools such as incubators and mechanical ventilators, as well as in family based care. The program combines didactic learning with practical field experiences in neonatal wards and ICUs, allowing learners to gain confidence and proficiency in real world environments. This blend of in-depth academic learning and practical skills prepares graduates to be very competent neonatal nursing practitioners who can help save and further the lives of new born babies.
