About Sophia College for Women, Mumbai
Sophia College for Women is a leading institution situated in the heart of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Founded in 1940 by the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it was created with an aim to educate and encourage women. Originally a royal palace owned by the Maharaja of Bhavnagar, the property was first sold to become an institution when it was bought by the Society.
Sophia College, affiliated to University of Mumbai is a Christian minority institution that opens its doors to the students of all castes and creeds. The college was also made autonomous by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2018, and since then it can frame the curriculum as well as assess itself.
The college imparts various undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses in Arts, Science, Mass Media and Management. It has been awarded an 'A++' grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which is a testimony to its excellent academic and administrative quality.
About campus: Sophia College is located at Pedder road which is an upmarket area of Mumb that ideally offers the peace and calm required for students in a college environment.
